MICHELLE LEWIN
Michelle grew up in poverty in Maracay, Venezuela. When her stepfather left her mother Michelle and her mother were left with nothing, they were forced to move into a meager apartment that hosted more cockroaches than food. Michelle remembers growing up young, working with her mother to survive, even accepting neighborly charity to eat. She was very skinny and at one point only weighed 85 pounds. During this time she would often wear long sleeves and pants to cover up her skinny appearance. She only first started working out when her mother took her to a gym at the age of 17. For the first seven years of working out she only focused on working out her legs leading to a disproportionate body.

aNNE ASSASSI
I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and health coach from the San Francisco Bay Area. I am very passionate about helping people become healthier versions of themselves. I’ve watched my own friends and family struggle with nutrition problems, including my own father who passed away from chronic kidney disease at the beginning of my graduate studies in nutrition. Seeing my parent pass away from a nutrition-related illness left me even more driven to help others, especially in helping to prevent chronic disease. I’ve also become fed up (pun intended) with diets that offer empty promises. Our world is consumed with whatever diet is popular today, but I strongly believe that health isn’t a trend. It’s important to choose the right ingredients and know what is exactly going into our bodies.
I first fell in love and became passionate about living a healthier lifestyle when I studied abroad in Greece. There I fell in love with Mediterranean food and my future husband (!) and learned that by just moving a little more and eating amazing whole foods, I could become a healthier me. Upon my return, I learned more about nutrition through fitness magazines and started to exercise regularly; I have since participated in several races ranging from 5ks to marathons! Even though I was studying history (fun fact: I was originally planning for law school and a career in politics!), I was quickly learning how much I was drawn to the world of health and nutrition and helping others. I realized that was my true calling after a gap year in the corporate world and headed to San Jose State University to receive my Master’s in Nutrition. 3 years of coursework, one graduate project, and an 11-month dietetic internship later, I was finally eligible to become an RDN! I started practicing as a Clinical Dietitian in 2013 and haven’t looked back since. I started Diet Assassanista with the mission to teach as many people as I can that eating healthy foods is fun, rewarding, and absolutely delicious!
